Fabric Tuesday #97

Last week Heather and I were able to meet up in California.  Just the mommy's and babies.  It was  A LOT of work but also A LOT of fun.

We made a last minute decision to do Disneyland and California Adventure...it ended up being the best day at the park either of us have ever had!!  We were able to go on so many ride with little to no wait, it was amazing!!  Our kids were in heaven.

We also scored a free hot air balloon ride which was pretty fun, hit the county fair and then beach, beach, beach!  Our kids could play all day long in those crashing waves.  Sometimes they were a little too daring for us.  It was a great vacation :)  Here are 6 of the 7 baby people:

And these are my boys (Megan)

So I know that's not much of a Fabric Tuesday post!  We didn't get any crafting done but we did take some pictures of upcoming patterns and projects that we will be sharing in the next few weeks.  Yay!!

Link up your latest fabric-related projects!  Enjoy the party! :)

Big news!

A year ago Heather and I would not have thought we would be sharing this news with you today!  About last September we were contacted by some lovelies at Moda Bake Shop asking if we would like to be contributors in an upcoming book....um YES!!!  We had a short deadline to get some samples and sketches together and submit them for approval.  And they chose three of our projects!! Eeeek!!  The book is called Sweet Celebrations with the Moda Bake Shop Chefs:

The book is filled with awesome projects by way-more-awesome-than-us chefs for celebrations we all have year round, birthdays, holidays, back to school,etc..  I cannot wait to see the book in person!

So one October weekend Heather and I did something sneaky.  VERY sneaky.  Only five people knew about this until now.  Our mom, me, my husband, Heather and her husband.  I flew to Utah for the weekend and Heather and I crafted our hearts out!  She picked me up from the airport late at night, we hit a Walmart for essentials nowhere near any friends or family and headed to my parents.  Our parents were in England so we had their big beautiful home to ourselves and we got it good and messy.  With the aid of some Lifetime Original Movies we completed all of our projects for the book in less than 72 hours!  Not only did I not have any spare time to visit, but the book was top secret so we couldn't let anyone know I was in town!!

Here are our projects:

Isn't that banner pillow Heather made darling??

Super sweet birthday hats.

And a sweet valentine's mailbox!!

There you have it!  We are so so so so excited :)

Urban Cabin from Lemonade Life...

Michelle from Lemonade Life created this awesome quilt. I am in love with the machine quilting she did herself.  I also love the back of this quilt, I am too impatient to get creative with the backs of my quilts, I a so anxious to have the quilt finished! To learn more about Michelle, check out her cute ABOUT ME page,  creative way to tell people about yourself. To see more great quilts, spend some time at Lemonade life.

It was a busy and productive week in the sewing room. I’m so proud to be finished with the Urban Cabin quilt. I’m really happy with how it turned out.
Urban12
The back is pieced – and is probably the most special. The white squares are filled with Bible verses, written by the ladies at our church.
Urban13
I named this quilt “Lori’s Love” because once the top was complete, one lady asked if I purposely choose a pattern that put L’s (Lori’s Initial) all over the front. It was a lucky coincidence — but a great one!

I quilted this bugger on my home machine, and I just about gave up. I cannot tell you how much I regretted that decision when I was pushing and pulling this large, heavy thing through the tiny throat of my machine. I did impress myself and did my first ever FMQ on the green border. It was actually fun.
Urban8
In the end, it was worth every drop of sweat. And, I finished just in time. On Friday, I stitched on the binding as Lori was returning home for a weekend visit from MD Anderson. It was a true joy to deliver this gift of encouragement to such a sweet, strong woman.

The little house I am mad at!

 cute little house

it wouldn't have been so bad had I not thought that it should be a brick house!

maybe one day when I am not mad at it, I will do a tutorial...

i thought, maybe I will keep it as a pin cushion? cute and functional...

but then she said "can I have it as a toy?"

i looked into her sweet bright blue begging eyes and just had to say yes

she played and loved. soon after, she has already lost it...

and it was so much work!

i am still mad at this cute little house!

i imagine it will turn up...

and we will love again the little lost brick house

TuTu Sweet: A no-sew tutu tutorial

Well well well, I did it again!  I finished up this tutorial on Moda Bake Shop and then they extended their kids series into July...so not that that matters to you but the date of my tutorial got pushed up and I forgot to post about it here!  I present my tutorial, TuTu Sweet!

So cute and scrappy right? I had those darling hedgehog leggings I got for super cheap at Gymboree and wanted to pair them with some fabulous color!  That's Kate Spain's new line Cuzco.  Looks like it will be available starting in October.  There are some really pretty prints in that line, I just pulled all the oranges/pinks/yellows but there are some awesome greens, purples and blues.  I definitely have plans for the rest of my jelly roll..and right now I'm thinking simple quilt! :)  You could also cut strips on the bias to get the same effect:  When you cut on the bias the fabric doesn't fray.

This skirt is super simple to make.  Elastic, fabric, pinking sheers and glue (or sew).  Great project for leftover jelly rolls or scraps.

Fun fun!  Can't wait for the tiny person to squeeze in there :)

Okay I can wait actually...she's a little easier to handle in than out I think...

Patchwork Chevron from Knotted-Thread

Well, according to me at least, you can't go wrong with anything chevron!  Hey that kinda rhymes :)  Jennifer from the Knotted-Thread has a fabulous patchwork chevron finish that we're featuring today.  Love it. Jennifer works with kids and enjoys quilting in her free time.  Check out her 2011 finishes and 2012 finishes for some cute quilts!

One more to add to the completed list!

Patchwork Chevron
I posted the completed top here
As some of you may remember I fell in love with the patchwork chevron here
but did not have 4 charm packs to work with so I modified it work with 2 packs.
My process is explained in the previous post
I went with a simple chevron quilting in the solid spaces

I used two of the prints from "Good Fortune" for the backing as well as some
Kona Medium Gray and a piece of Stars in Shade from the new "Quilt Blocks" line in periwinkle

This quilt is for sale in my etsy shop.
